Intensive Prevention Program (IPP)
Serves suspended Shaker Heights students, grades K-12, through a morning tutoring program designed to keep students current with assigned classroom work and an afternoon life skills group that teaches positive social skills.
Academic Success Aid Program (ASAP)
Provides daily academic support to expelled students from Shaker Heights schools, as well as teaching positive social skills through life skills groups and community engagement through service learning.
Shaker was named one of eight MyCom (My Commitment, My Community) neighborhoods by the Cleveland Foundation in 2008.
Positive Engagement Encouraging Resiliency in Shaker Students (PEERS) HS/MS
This five week summer program helps students develop a resiliency-based project using the Life Skills Curriculum that is adapted to meet the cultural requirements and community needs of Shaker Heights. It also includes the International Baccalaureate approach to learning.
Shaker is one of the original eight MyCom (My Commitment, My Neighborhood) neighborhoods. MyCom provides youth leadership programming, employment opportunities, career development, college access and community service. The Shaker Heights Youth Center coordinates and staffs the project and works with our partners to strengthen youth programming.
School Based Student Assistance Program (SAP)
Youth Center staff provides in-school problem identification and referral and support services to Shaker Heights Middle and High School students who are experiencing academic, emotional and/or social difficulties.
IMPACT Youth Enrichment Program
The Youth Center supports this program of First Unitarian Church in Shaker Heights. IMPACT Youth Enrichment meets after school and provides a safe, nurturing environment that promotes academic, emotional and social growth for Shaker Middle School students. IMPACT is designed to help students successfully navigate through their middle school years. www.shakerimpact.org
Girls’ Summer Leadership Camp for Shaker Students Grades 6-8
The focus of the camp is to build self-esteem, resiliency, personal leadership skills, and the ability to reach one’s full potential through creative expression, journaling, physical activity, education and service learning projects. The program uses the Life Skills curriculum.
