MAJOR PROGRAMS of the SHAKER HEIGHTS YOUTH CENTER INCLUDE:

 

Intensive Prevention Program (IPP)

Services suspended students, grades K-12, in Shaker Heights schools through a morning tutoring program designed to keep students current with assigned classroom work and an afternoon life skills group.


Academic Success Aid Program (ASAP) - School Year

Provides daily academic support to expelled students as well as teaching positive social skills through life skills groups and community engagement through sevice learning. 

MyCom South Shaker

South Shaker was named one of eight MyCom (My Commitment, My Community) neighborhoods by the Cleveland Foundation in 2008. MyCom provides youth development programming, supporting adolescents in Employment and Career Development, College Access, Community Access and a wide variety of Arts.  The Shaker Heights Youth Center serves as fiscal agent and staffs the project.



School Based Student Assistance Program (SAP)

Youth Center staff provide in-school problem identification and referral and support Middle and High School students who are experienceing academic, emotional and/or social problems.

                                IMPACT YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

The Youth Center supports the IMPACT YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM at First

Unitarian Church. IMPACT Youth Enrichment Program, (formerly known as Open Doors

After School Enrichment Program), provides a safe, nurturing afterschool environment

that promotes academic, emotional, and social growth among middle school students.

IMPACT is designed to help students successfully navigate through the middle school

years. Since 2001, IMPACT has been opened doors to unlimited opportunities and l

earning adventures for over 300 Shaker students and their families. Students are able

to spend crucial out-of-school time in a safe and fun place while receiving academic

support, mentoring, and essential life skills. The program is conveniently housed at the

First Unitarian Church (within walking distance of the Middle School), and runs Monday

through Thursday from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. throughout the school year. We are able to

support up to 25 students through compassionate paid and volunteer staff. United by a

true strategic alliance, program funding is made possible through Shaker Heights Youth

Center, First Unitarian Church, public and private foundations, and generous individuals.
